I confess, I am binge reading this series.I was, initially, attracted to the covers. They are very peaceful, almost gentle.
But inside! Not sedate! Rascals and mayhem, schemes and conniving, lovers and lasses, escapes to Gretna Green, and the odd special license or two.
This book, like the others, is full of family love and affection. It also has misunderstandings, and pain, and, ultimately, recovery.
It is populated by a wonderful group of characters, who run pell-mell through their scenes, and really impressed me. Someone should make a miniseries...

Once again in this series I have wanted a deeper destroy these main characters certainly have the chemistry and had hoped there would have been more substance but it was enjoyable.
I HATE giving this low rating -indeed I considered not posting a review at all but absolutely agree with Rastamuffin. I felt there was a rush to "get it over and done with" and that left me floundering.
After enjoying my first Ava Stone I bought all her available books, so I'm a real fan. Believe me, this is written as a spur to Ms Stone to write the other characters' stories with a closer look into their hearts as was evident before.
I hope first-time readers of this series will not be turned away from what has been a delightful collection of stories.
What can I say, I enjoyed this story as much as the rest of the series. Again, it was well written and the characters well define. She drew the readers in and allowed us to experience her characters many emotions. The story had intrigue, suspense, betrayal, violence, suffering, love, and a happily ever after.
I think the H was a character who was always going to be difficult to redeem in a short story. I doubt that many readers who read the first 2 books in this series (My Favorite Major (Heroes Returned Book 1) &The English Lieutenant's Lady (Heroes Returned Book 2)), would easily believe in this H's reformation. I'm not convinced he could remain faithful due to his behaviour in the past. Also in this book he doesn't trust himself and so he leaves the h. I suppose if like me, you've read the others and want to know how it all works out then you'll buy this book and decide for yourself.
I just loved this story. I just read this book in one setting it was that captivating. I couldn't put it down this is by far my favorite regency romance novel. It was more about feelings than the actual deed. Briget Kelly is a young Irish girl who goes to live with friends of her late brother. She has a bit of a bumpy beginning but she manages to settle in and fall head over heels for Captain Russel Avery. Who happens to be a self professed rake of the worst kind. Captain Avery has plenty of redeeming qualities like kindness, compassion and integrity even though it won't admit it. He believes it can't love just one woman so he leaves her because he has a misguided notion that its for her own good. I think he was just afraid to admit he has feelings for briget. So after he leaves her and heads to London she ends up in London as well and his realises he can't go on without her when he believes she will meet and marry another man.
The harder they fall. And Russell Avery is th he biggest womanizer on the continent. He's never been in love, not even with Phoebe, who he was engaged to and treated abominably. When his brother and best friend elopes with her, he's devastated. He doesn't miss Phoebe, though. He misses Russell, who he feels betrayed him.
It's at this point that he meets Bridget. He's attracted to her from the start, but for once he puts someone else before himself and decides to go back to London, far from temptation. But out of sight does not mean out of mind, and Russell eventually comes to the realization that he's in love.
I love all of Ava Stone’s books in this series. I can’t seem to get enough of them. This series I feel should be read in order just because you get to meet all the characters over and over in all her books! Up in till this book I felt like Russell. Was getting a bad rap! When he found his true love it melted my heart! You will come to love Russell in this book! Read the series you won’t be disappointed!
